Ode to Spring

Landscapers are pruning and planting, DQ is serving-up vanilla twists, and the Flying Horses are about to ride in search of the coveted brass ring.  Let the 2011 season begin...

Price to ride carousel in 1886, 5 cents - and today just $2...still a reasonable sum.

February Grays

I achieved the perfect gray wall color by custom-mixing Benjamin Moore at Edgartown Hardware (color not shown).   I was looking for that delicate balance of pale, warm, neutral gray that would blend seemlessly with my furnishings - never appearing too dreary.  If you're looking for gray, ask John Montes for Lisa's Latte (my custom-mix - it's in the computer).  Developing it took hours, so I'm saving you the time dump.  A palette of whites, grays, and mushroom-pale browns swirled together to achieve swatch after swatch on the wall - not to mention, a few trips back/forth to the hardware store.  I love it...and everyone who comes by, compliments the color and asks what it is.  Sorry I don't have the formula to hand out...but if you live elsewhere, try giving John a call.

EH is not located on Main Street, anymore...they moved to Edgartown/W. Tisbury Rd...the vacant white building, across from the old Edgartown School.  Easier parking...that's a good thing when you have several gallons of paint to carry.

Artwork by my imaginative, little G.  He loves sharks.  I love his art.

Cozying-Up

Military Doeskin Coat with Shearling Panel:  Burberry

ArtCliff Diner:  39 Beach Road, Vineyard Haven (7-2, closed t/w)
Let me just pause here for a moment, and tell you about the ultimate hot chocolate at ArtCliff. It is made with Mexican, cocoa bean chocolate and fresh, "whole" milk.  Topped off with the most decadent, homemade-tasting whipped cream and served in a fat, ivory mug with a chunky handle.  The feeling-chilly-day solution.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the place...forget about getting a table in summer...lines out the door, and long wait.  Now, is the perfect time to go.  The food is scrumptious...well-priced.  Frequent celeb hang-out...always seeing one or another there, trying to hide behind big Jackie-O glasses, or a knit hat and scruffy beard (Jake...).

Fall view of Edgartown Great Pond at the golden hour....so calming and postcard lovely.

We're All Happy - Back to School!

Kids exceedingly bored.
Kids miss school friends.
Kids can't get enough of back-to-school shopping (okay...you're all set...really).
It's the last of the sleepovers. (actually...a birthday is coming, but summer ones are the best - see above).
Parents anxious to get back to thee routine.

It's been a fabulous summer...can you believe all the gorgeous weather that we've had, since April? (dismissing Danielle and Earl's visit, of course).  Absolutely amazing!  I heard one summerer remark that it's the best she's seen in 43 years...43 years!! I hope we don't have to wait that long for another...

Alas, as Labor Day weekend rolls around - you can literally sense a change in the air...it's getting a little crisper at night, and fathers are relearning the remote control settings...football season is fast approaching.

Above:  Tory Burch for kids, Jack Wills-Edgartown tee (not for kids, but trust me - the smallish sizes are made for a tween and they are dying for them), Ralph Lauren sweater, Vineyard Vines-Edgartown Tremont Tattersall skirt, Joules waxed cotton jacket, Girls Agatha Ruiz de la Prada boots via Zappos (and after becoming a recent purchaser of Zappos...outstanding, quick delivery and customer service). Smart and classic-looking R. Williams backpack.

Saturday

A Few Finds...

Interior designer, John Murphy, launched the opening of Tracker Home Decor, in the old Lamplighter space on Pease's Point Way, in Edgartown.  Fabulous finds abound, pop in.

The Chilmark Flea hunt, the beach, magazine toting...what could be better to lug your chattels around, than in a Fleabag?  My favorite...the "Salt" in organic hemp denim (custom-dyed light blue) with brushed black nubuck leather.  Each bag is made in limited editions (signed and numbered using water-based ink).
Always on the prowl for underfoot beauty...and I found it at Loom.  Collections are unique (see the patchwork series) and eye-catching, but not too overwhelming.

If you are craving some interior inspiration, head down to the 4th Annual Edgartown House Tour (Tuesday, 8/10 from 2-4:30pm). Tickets are $35 each, benefiting the Federated Church of Edgartown, tea and refreshments included (on the lawn at the parsonage - S. Water Street...take in the views while you have a sip).
